Gandhi who was a fearless advocate of non-violence kept the story of Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita by his side throughout his life, a fact that invites us to look at the fights of our lives in a slightly different light.
There is always tension in our lives. Daily we are at the threshold of new choices, new decisions. What do we do, which fork of the road do we pick, how do we move ahead?
Simple, says Krishna, move forward in a fearless way.
See that you are always connected to me (the divine), let go of your personal fears and anxiety, and make all your acts an offering, a sacrifice for the highest good. Concentrate your mind on me…
Krishna urges us to be fearless.
The enemy exists only in our mind. Slay the doubt, fear, anxiety and all the emotions that arise from such small nagative thinking and you become a hero of positive change. Live life fully, dedicate your mind to seeing the mystery of inter-connection, and lighten up is the advice of God Krishna to the prince warrior Arjuna.
Are you ready to be Fearless and take a Heroic Stance in your life?
We stand for love, kindness, honesty, for everything we believe is important. Sometimes we speak up, many times we face friction with other people’s truths, and continuously we learn from this perceived difference.
I don’t want to say we are here to fight, but I can say we are here to choose. Every moment of our life we are faced with a decision. A dilemma that causes tension. A good thing too, because this tension causes action. The action we opt to take is the way we choose to fight the moment-to-moment battle of our lives.
Why can’t we always fight like valiant warriors?
Because, as Krishna points out, we are confused. Action equals thought. Our actions are uncertain because the big story is convoluted in our minds and our thoughts are confused. We can’t see the big truth, the one harmonious goodness that underlies all reality. When our mind becomes clear then action becomes clear and straight forward.
And how does the moment become clear? Simple: through meditation. In chapter six, Krishna urges Arjuna: “Make your mind one-pointed in meditation, and your heart will be purified… With senses and mind constantly controlled through meditation, united with the Self within, an aspirant attains nirvana, the state of abiding joy and peace in me.”
When we feel agitated, confused, unsure, afraid, we can take up this simple practice of focusing on the breath… as the breath takes on its natural effortless rhythm, the mind too will calm down. And when we step off the rollercoaster of our confused thoughts, a new clarity sets in that illuminates our path of action.
“It is true that the mind is restless and difficult to control” continues Krishna, “but it can be conquered, Arjuna, through regular practice and detachment..”
Thus my dear friends, we continue onwards, fearless, confident, optimistic on our path. The battle is there for us to enjoy and learn from!
Peace and power to you!
